The swinging sixties, amongst other things, saw the development of the Sketty Park
Estate and an outreach work started by Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in 1963 with
the children of the area. Initially kids were bussed into the Mount Pleasant Sunday
School, but in 1971, the hall at Maes y Gollen was built and a children’s work was
established in the “old hall”.
A Sunday morning service for adults began in 1979 and in 1986 the Church at Maes
y Gollen was formally planted when 21 members from Mount Pleasant transferred their
membership to the new fellowship.
As numbers grew, in 1993 Parklands moved to the halls and classrooms of Olchfa School
on Sunday mornings and then, a second Sunday morning congregation was planted in
Woodlands, a temporary setting within Cefn Coed Hospital.
In 1999 a new building was completed at Maes y Gollen. 40 years on from that initial
outreach work, God has been so good that today we have a vibrant Christian witness
reaching into the community.
