MOdern Day SLavery

Many people below that slavery is a thing of the past, eradicated in the 19th Century.

But it is a devastating fact that there are more slaves now, in our life time, than any other time in history combined.

Today there are over 40 million people in slavery globally. 1 in 4 of these people are children.

We believe that fighting modern-slavery, to end the oppression of millions around the world, often for our benefit – to labour for good such as rice, bricks, clothing, chocolate and online “entertainment”- is a call we all have from God.

Ending slavery is possible in our lifetime, and we all have a part to play. Have a look below for some starting resources and ways you can get involved.

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”

Isaiah 61:1

STEP ONE: EDUCATE OURSELVES

One of the best things we can do is expose what is in darkness to light. To talk about these issues, to make ourselves more aware and to make others aware. Below are a few resources to get you started from sources we trust, such as International Justice Mission:

STEP TWO: PRAY

Incredible things happen when we pray, people trapped are found, people are set free and lives are changed. The work of justice begins and is sustained by prayer. Join us as we pray together to see an end to injustice! Email at [email protected] for details on how you can pray with others and receive updates on things to pray for.

STEP THREE: TAKE ACTION

As we grow as a Church in our knowledge about what we can do practically to help shop slave free, and fight slavery in our lifetime we will update this page. But why not as a first action sign up to IJM’s slave free lent? Exposing where there may be slavery in the supply chains of every day things we buy:
